The three types of emergencies under the Indian Constitution are:
- National emergency due to external aggression
- National emergency due to internal rebellion
- Emergency due to failure of state machinery
- Financial emergency due to economic or financial crisis
India has never had a financial emergency. While there was a situation where India came close to declaring a financial emergency during the 1991 Indian economic crisis, the government averted the situation by securing an additional emergency loan from the International Monetary Fund by pledging a part of India's gold reserves as collateral.
