As per a report by Planning Commission, India would have required to spend at least 2.5% of its GDP on health by 2017 to progress in the road towards Universal Health Coverage. However, India spent 1.16% of its GDP on healthcare in 2016-17.
The government projects India will be able to reach the 2.5% of GDP expenditure on healthcare by 2025.
